Regatta

About Regatta

The foundation of the Babylon Yacht Club is anchored in the tradition, competition and camaraderie that is involved in sailing on the Great South Bay. Times and tides are constantly changing, but one thing remains true: our commitment to the history of Long Island sailing and the community that has been built around it.

Each year, the BYC hosts a variety of races for both one-design and cruising auxiliary classes. In addition to our Annual 4th of July Regatta, we hold three other invitationals, the members-only, “best 4 out of 6” Corinthian Series and the annual Commodore’s Cup. Our skippers also take part in several special events through our membership in the Great South Bay Yacht Racing Association (GSBYRA) and our relationship with the South Bay Cruising Club (SBCC).

Frostbiting

Cold weather may signal the end of the regular sailing season for most, but it also indicates the start of another season, Frostbiting. This dedicated group of skippers and crew push the sailing season to sometimes unreasonable limits. The Frostbite fleet starts it’s season each year the day after Thanksgiving. They schedule 10-12 days of racing through the winter months until the end of March.
